Staying Quit

Congratulations if your reading this as an ex-smoker. If you're still in the process of stopping smoking you need to be prepared for those situations when you are likely to feel a craving for a cigarette.

These cravings often happen when you encounter a situation where as a smoker you would have had a cigarette. In the early days of being a non smoker it's worth trying to avoid these situations, and varying your rountine a little.

For instance go for a walk after a meal, try to avoid drinking alcohol for a while, as for many a drink and a cigarette go together, and sit in non smoking areas of restaurants.

Don't worry, the craving for a cigarette usually only lasts 3-5 minutes, and with each one beat you get stronger.

Give your self a treat - remember how much money you are saving each day that you are a non smoker - that positive reinforcement can really help.
