What to expect when you stop smoking
Almost immediatley your the carbon monoxide levels in your bloodstream begin to decline, and your heart and lungs begin to repair.
After a couple of days your sense of taste and smell begin to come back, and the smokers cough begins to disappear. You may find yourself coughing more as your lungs clear out all the deposits of cigarette smoke.
You may experience temporary weight gain due to fluid retention, see our section on avoiding weight gain after qutting smoking.
The nicotine withdrawal, and increased oxygen to your brain can make you feel edgy or hungary, but don't worry these are just normal symptoms of you body getting used to being normal again. Most of the nicotine is gone from your body within 2 or 3 days.
These effects are only temporary and the long term benefits of stopping smoking far outweight the short term changes you experience.
